School Facilities

Summary of Most Recent Site Inspection

Education for Change at Cox Academy shares facility space with an Oakland Unified School District school. EFC at Cox's facility includes multiple permanent classroom buildings as well as portable classrooms on the school's large yard.  Additionally, there is shared space which includes the cafeteria, playground and bathrooms.  Maintenance and repair of the school is completed by Oakland Unified School District, with an on-site custodian/handyman to take care of day to day issues.  With this in-house expertise, the site is kept clean and smaller scale maintenance issues are addressed right away.

Repairs Needed

There are four facilities issues that need to be addressed.  In the bathrooms, stall doors and partitions need to be repaired or replaced and some fans are not working.  Additionally, the bathroom drain pipes require a deep clean or replacement.  In the kitchen, some of the vents need to be replaced or repaired, the shatterproofs need to be replaced and some light fixtures need covers and exposed wires need to be corrected.  The alarm system needs to be repaired so that it does not go off with false alarms.  Finally, some fencing needs to be replaced.

Corrective Actions Taken or Planned

Communication to ensure the above issues are addressed is on-going. Work orders and e-mails have been submitted to Oakland Unified School District.  Additionally, notes from a walk through were given to the Buildings and Grounds department.
