About Our Schools
Key Program Design Elements
High Quality Teaching.Every student deserves a high quality teacher in the classroom. Through the Collaborative Inquiry Cycle, Lesson Design Study and grade level planning, teachers collaborate with their colleagues to share their successes and challenges, to deepen their knowledge of instructional designs, and to continually work toward improving their instruction. We use the most effective research based practices to ensure our students receive maximum benefit from every hour they spend in school. We view teaching as a collaborative practice in which skilled practitioners continuously develop and refine their skills.
Extended Time for Collaboration and Learning. All teachers receive extensive professional development and dedicated collaboration time to improve their instructional practices. For students, there are opportunities for additional instruction with the Education for Change before and after school instructional programs. These programs are designed to help our students acquire grade level academic knowledge and skills, and to provide broad extracurricular experiences that will prepare them for middle school and high school.
Coherent, Comprehensive, Rigorous Standards Based Curriculum.EFC's core curriculum uses Open Court Reading and Harcourt Brace Mathematics as its foundation. Teachers will implement these programs as designed focusing on the systematic instruction underlying each program. Our academic program emphasizes mastering grade level skills in reading and math. At the same time, w are expanding and enhancing our curriculum with the arts through a partnership with the Museum of Children's Art (MOCHA). Additionally, science and social studies are offered as integrated components leveraging Open Court curriculum where themes traverse subject areas. Student learning is reinforced, enhanced and extended by our academic program because each component supports and builds upon student learning obtained in previous lessons.
