School Facilities

Summary of Most Recent Site Inspection

Education for Change at World Academy leases its facility, the main Hawthorne site, from the Oakland Unified School District.  The large facility includes one permanent building, and a two story modular building.  The main building was built in the 1930s and has 14 classrooms.  The school underwent modernization with the addition of a two story building to replace some portables.  The library has been computerized and updated.  There is one multipurpose room for meals, assemblies, after school programs, and meetings.  The wall of the building that faces the play yard is decorated with child centered murals.  Students are able to play on the ample yard which includes a colorful playstructure.

EFC at World Academy strives to keep the facility clean and orderly at all times.  The entire school community has great pride in the school and knows that everyone has a role in maintaining the cleanliness of the campus.  The school has both day and night cleaning staff.

Opportunities for Parental Involvement

This section provides information about opportunities for parents to become involved with school activities.

Parents at EFC at World Academy are active participants in the school community.  A number of opportunities for parent involvement exist at the site including volunteering, involvement in site committees,  parent conferences, participation in school-wide events, and Family Resource Center activities.  Parents are encouraged to become school volunteers.  School site committees such as the ELAC/ DELAC and SSC/DAC provide leadership opportunities for parents. Meetings are held monthly and each committee specifically focuses on the state and federal compliance mandates that are designated to these committees.  Many opportunities exist for parents to learn more about what is happening at their school site including Back to School Night, Open House, attendance assemblies and celebrations. Additionally, monthly grade level parent meetings are held in which teachers share components of the program with parents. EFC at World Academy partners with East Bay Agency for Children to provide further leadership opportunities and  parent classes on issues such as :rules, rights and responsibilities, how to assist students with their homework, questions parents should ask teachers, nutrition and classes on how to be a better parent.  They also have ELD, GED, and Spanish literacy classes.  EBAC also provides health services, food drives, monthly clothes give away, legal assistance, housing assistance, etc.  We welcome parents at EFC at World Academy.
