English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC)

The ELAC advises the principal and staff in the development of goals and priorities for the educational program of English Language Learners and makes recommendations regarding the support of these students. Funding to support these students comes from both state and federal sources. The committee advises (reviews and comments) on at least the following:

  1. Development of a detailed plan for English language Learner education for the individual school.
  2. Development of the school's needs assessment.
  3. Dissemination of the school's annual language census.
  4. Efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.
Parent Leadership Council (PLC)

One of the most powerful ways for parents to be involved in their children's education is by being knowledgeable about and supporting the instructional program at their children's school. The Parent Leadership Council provides opportunity for parents to get involved in various ways. The purpose of the PLC is to:

  • Encourage and support family involvement in the academic life of each student.
  • Provide tools to parents to assist them in supporting their child's education.
  • Provide parents a way to communicate with school leadership and other parents.
  • Provide a community of parents who care about their children's education and who want to be a vital part of their child's academic success.

The functions of the PLC may be assumed by the SSC. We believe that it is critical to support our parents to become knowledgeable partners in their students' success. We will accomplish this by working to keep our parents fully informed about their students' academic performance in school and the Education for Change academic program.
