Belonging Begins With Partnership
We know that learning is stronger when families and educators are aligned. That’s why EFC is committed to building real, ongoing partnerships with every family in our community. From classroom check-ins to leadership councils, we invite your voice, your experiences, and your dreams for your child into everything we do.
Together, we create schools where students feel safe, supported, and set up to succeed.

EFC & Oakland Families
Two-Way Communication & Connected Classrooms
Partnership begins with staying connected.
From class updates and newsletters to one-on-one conversations and conferences, EFC schools make communication a priority. Families can easily reach out to teachers, join family meetings, and participate in workshops that build confidence for school conversations. We offer conference-prep sessions, home learning support, and frequent touchpoints between families and educators throughout the year.
Family Leadership Council (FLC)
Families help lead at the site and system level.
Each EFC school has a Family Leadership Council (FLC) made up of representatives from every grade level. FLCs meet monthly with principals to:
- Review student data
- Set school goals
- Provide budget input
- Plan school events
- Advocate with elected officials
Two representatives from each school serve on the EFC-wide Family Leadership Council, which meets monthly and elects 2 members to sit on the Board of Directors — giving families direct influence at every level of the organization.
Family Voice Through Feedback, Walkthroughs & Hiring
Your voice shapes the student experience.
EFC creates multiple avenues for families to share insight and influence decision-making. These include:
- Quarterly surveys and focus groups
- Family walkthroughs, where parents observe real instruction
- Participation in hiring panels for principals and teachers
- Input into curriculum nights and learning priorities
When families speak, we listen — and take action.
Workshops, Parent Learning & Volunteering
Families are learners too — and leaders in action.
We offer year-round opportunities for families to engage as learners and contributors. Examples include:
- Math University and Reading Nights
- Lit4Literacy cohorts
- i-Ready and data literacy workshops
- Parent classes in ESL, child development, health, tech, and even Zumba!
- Volunteering as classroom helpers, small group reading, event hosts, or field trip chaperones
Whether it’s joining a workshop or leading an event, families bring joy and momentum to our schools.
These partnerships are what make EFC schools strong. Whether you’re volunteering, learning alongside your child, or shaping system-wide change — you are part of what makes success possible.
