ASCEND is an arts-integrated TK-8 school that

emphasizes family and community partnerships.

The mission of ASCEND is to nurture a passion for learning and cultivate personal agency in order to discover who we are, what we need and how to advocate for it. Together, our community of students, families, and staff explores, learns and grows through success and failure. Diverse learners thrive through an approach that develops the whole individual, which includes arts-integration, expeditionary learning, personalization, and a focus on social and emotional growth. Through a common vision guided by love, we empower each other to forge our own paths and to create a school that reflects the world we want.

ASCEND teachers often work with students in small groups and one-on-one, in order to meet each individual child’s needs. We have a pilot program in part of our elementary grades where students are learning in multi-age classrooms, with flexible learning environments. To best support the learning needs of our students, we need to know who they are as learners and how they learn best.

Our students also participate in “blended learning” – they engage in learning through adaptive computer programs in math and reading – in order to make sure that we are meeting their individual needs.  When students struggle, we support them with a thoughtful interventions process that leads to extra small-group instruction and/or counseling services in order to help the children be successful.

ASCEND has adopted a policy that prohibits discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and bullying based on actual or perceived ancestry, age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, actual or potential parental, family, or marital status. race or ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or association with a person or a group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics.
